You recognize a figaro chain by its Italian pattern of three short links and one long one. In silver-tone or gold-tone stainless steel, as a 3 or 6 mm chain and as a 3 or 5 mm bracelet.

You recognize the figaro chain by its rhythm: three short links followed by one longer link, again and again. That alternating pattern is the trademark of this Italian link and makes it recognizable without being loud.
Why figaro works
The pattern breaks the regularity of an ordinary link chain, so it looks more interesting than a smooth link but calmer than a wide Cuban link. That puts figaro right in the middle, and that is why it has been popular for so long.
Figaro or Cuban?
Both links lie fairly flat, but the figaro has a rhythm of three short links and one long, while a Cuban is the same all along and more tightly twisted. As a result the figaro looks lighter and more playful, the Cuban sleeker and heavier. In doubt? Choose figaro if you want to wear it with a pendant and Cuban if you wear it on its own. A 3 mm figaro bracelet also fits next to a watch, as long as it matches the color of the watch case.
Widths and sizes
The figaro chain comes in 3 and 6 mm, in 45, 50 and 55 cm. The figaro bracelet in 3 and 5 mm, in 16, 18 and 20 cm. For the chain, 55 cm is the length we sell most often; for the bracelet, 5 mm is the most chosen width. A 16 cm bracelet fits a slim wrist of 14 to 14.5 cm.
Width and wear
The 3 mm figaro is suitable for carrying a pendant; the longer link gives you a natural point to attach one. The 6 mm figaro looks best on its own and is wide enough to stand alone. Chain and bracelet in the same color make a set; choose the bracelet as wide as the chain or narrower.
Material
The figaro models are stainless steel. The silver-tone version is bare, polished steel: there is no layer that can wear off, it does not discolor and you never need a silver polishing cloth, so it can go in the shower. The gold-tone version has a five-layer PVD finish, harder than ordinary plating but still a layer: take it off before the shower and the gym.
