Pendant or complete necklace?
A separate cross pendant can be paired with any chain you like, and you can swap it whenever you want. A complete necklace is finished as it comes and the proportions are right by default. If you buy the pendant on its own, choose the same color and material for the chain, otherwise small differences in shine will stand out.
Which chain suits a cross pendant?
Choose a link that is not too wide, so the cross sets the tone rather than the chain. A narrower king's link, box or rope works best for this. Also check that the bail of the pendant fits over the link: with a wide Cuban link that is often not the case.
Length
The complete cross necklaces come in 45 and 50 cm (18 and 20in), and that is deliberately short, because the pendant counts in full. A 15 mm cross drops your chain by its entire height, while extra chain length spreads over two sides and therefore counts only half. Material
The smooth cross pendants are stainless steel; the stone-set iced out models sit on nickel-free copper alloy with PVD. Silver-colored steel is bare, polished steel with no coating: the color does not change, no tarnish builds up and it can be worn in the shower. Everything with a PVD finish (gold-colored steel and the copper alloy) comes off before the shower and the gym, because that layer wears through. Take every model off before swimming.
