Figaro Chain Silver Stainless Steel (3MM & 6MM) with an Alternating Link
A figaro chain repeats one long link followed by three short ones, so the pattern gives the eye a rhythm to follow instead of a uniform line. This is the silver version in stainless steel with a 5x PVD silver-tone finish, and it is the easiest chain in the range to live with: the steel underneath is the same colour as the finish, so nothing about it ever looks half-worn. In 3MM and 6MM, in 45, 50 and 55 cm.

What 5x PVD means, and why silver gets the easier deal
PVD stands for physical vapour deposition: the finish is bonded to the steel molecule by molecule inside a vacuum chamber, five layers of it, rather than being laid on top in a plating bath. That makes it harder and more scratch-resistant than ordinary plating. On a figaro the finish earns its keep, because the long link sits proudest in the pattern and meets your collar and a seatbelt before the short links do. And silver has an advantage its gold counterpart does not: the steel beneath the finish is the same colour, so even years of rubbing on that long link never leaves a lighter patch behind.
Why the silver version asks so little of you
Wear never shows as a colour change, because finish and steel match
Stays bright without polishing, unlike sterling silver
Stainless steel core that keeps its shape and never rusts
Flat links that lie against the skin rather than rolling
Pairs naturally with a steel watch
Worn by men and women alike
Figaro, cuban or rope?
All three are classics and they behave differently once on.
Figaro: alternating long and short links. Visible pattern, flat profile, and the most characterful of the three.
Cuban: uniform flat links. The most familiar look and the best base for a pendant.
Rope: a twisted spiral that catches the most light and turns as you move.
If you already own a plain chain and want something with more design to it, the figaro is the natural next one.
Choose your width: 3 or 6 mm
3MM: fine and understated, with the pattern as a close-up detail. Sits neatly under a collar.
6MM: twice the width, with a pattern you can read from across a room. Worn over a t-shirt.
There is no middle width in figaro, so if you want something in between, our cuban chain runs 3, 5 and 7 mm.
Choose your length: 45, 50 or 55 cm
45cm: sits high at the base of the neck.
50cm: just above the collarbones, the most chosen length.
55cm: on the collarbones, and the right length with a pendant.
Care
Rinse it with lukewarm water when it needs it and dry with a soft cloth. No polishing and no storage rules. The one thing worth doing occasionally is running a soft brush along the pattern, since the joints between long and short links collect a little more than a flat chain does, and taking it off for the pool and for heavy sport keeps the finish at its best for longer.
What to wear it with
The matching silver figaro bracelet uses the same pattern and makes an obvious set. Keep to one metal tone, and if you layer, put a plain chain next to it rather than a second patterned one. See the full figaro collection or all necklaces.
