Signet rings
The signet ring is the classic men's model: a wide ring with a flat head. Originally a family crest was engraved into it to seal documents, hence the name. The right size
Measure a ring you already wear: place it on a ruler and measure the inner diameter in millimeters. If you measure your finger directly, do it at the end of the day, because fingers swell slightly as the day goes on. Our ring sizes 5 through 11 are US sizes; we do not carry half sizes. Look your measured inner diameter up in the ring size chart. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one. With a wide ring that matters in particular, because it passes over your knuckle less easily.
Material
A ring takes more knocks than any other piece of jewelry. Stainless steel is harder than silver, but it is not proof against scratches: on hard contact steel marks too. The silver-colored steel rings are bare, polished steel with no coating, so those can stay on in the shower. The gold-colored steel rings, the 18K gold plated signet ring and the white gold plated moissanite rings all carry a layer: take those off before the shower and the gym. 925 sterling silver is a real precious metal and feels heavier, but it is softer and shows signs of wear sooner. Take every ring off before swimming, because chlorine is harsher than shower water.
