Plain or Iced Out

We carry this cross in two versions and the difference is more than the stones. This plain one is smaller and quieter: the symbol does the work, not the sparkle. The iced out version is noticeably larger at 4.1 cm and is meant to be seen. If you want something that suits smart clothing or that you wear without thinking about it, this is the one. If you want a statement, look at the iced out.

Which Chain Goes With It

At this size and weight the pendant works on almost any chain. A snake or box of 1.5mm to 2mm keeps the whole thing fine; a rope or cuban of 3mm gives the chain a role of its own too. Choose the same silver tone so pendant and chain match in colour. At 55 to 60 cm the cross lands at chest height.

Why Silver on Steel Is Practical Here

A cross is mostly edge: four arm ends and long straight sides catch everything that rubs past, and unlike a set piece there are no stones taking that contact. On a gold-tone pendant that is where the gold layer wears through first. Here there is no layer over the steel — the silver tone is the polished steel itself — so wear on those edges leaves no lighter patch. That is precisely what makes this the version to wear every day.

Care

You do not need to take the pendant off to wash your hands, walk through rain or shower: there is no layer that could wear off. Do take it off before the pool, because chlorine is harsher than shower water. The gold-tone cross pendant also comes off before the shower and before sport, because a layer does sit over the same steel there. Rinse it under the tap after seawater or chlorine. You will never need silver polish, because no tarnish forms of the kind you get on real silver. A plain surface shows fingerprints sooner than a set pendant; a soft cloth is enough.
