Which silver chain?
- Cuban link in 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 mm: flat links that lie close to the skin.
- Rope chain in 2, 3 and 4 mm: twisted like a rope, with lots of shine.
- King's chain in 2.5 mm: densely woven and strong, and fine enough for a pendant.
- Anchor chain in 2.8 mm: a classic link of round, slightly flattened rings.

Real silver or silver-tone steel?
A silver chain is made of 925 sterling silver: a real precious metal, heavier in the hand and with a deeper shine. Silver-tone stainless steel looks similar from a distance, but it is a different metal: bare, polished steel with no coating that does not discolor. Which width and length?
A 2 to 3 mm silver chain is fine enough for a pendant or for layering with a second chain. From 4 mm it stands on its own; the 4 mm Cuban link is a good place to start. For length, 55 cm (22 in) is the starting point: it falls on the top of the breastbone and it is the length we sell most often. 50 cm (20 in) falls just below your collarbone, 60 cm (24 in) mid-chest. Care
925 silver tarnishes slightly over time; a silver cloth polishes that away. Because it is solid silver, you can polish out scratches without wearing through a layer. It does come off for the pool, because chlorine attacks silver. Store your chain dry and apart from other jewelry.
