Signet Ring Silver (Engraved) With a Flat Face for Text or a Photo
The same signet ring in silver tone: a flat top face for engraving with initials, a name, a symbol or a photo. The base is stainless steel, polished to a silver tone: no layer over it, just the steel itself. For engraving, silver is the more practical color of the two, and there is a concrete reason for that.

Why Silver Engraves Better Than Gold
Engraving removes material. On the gold-tone version you cut through the gold layer down to the steel, so the engraving takes on a different color from the surface around it: a clear contrast that can look good, but that becomes busy on fine detail. This ring has no layer at all: it is silver-tone steel right through, so the engraving is the same color as the rest, and lines stay more legible. That makes this version better suited to a photo engraving or a longer text, where the gold alternative works better for a single large initial.
A Photo on a Ring
A photo engraving is made up of a great many small lines and dots that together form an image. That calls for a smooth, even face and a calm background color, which is exactly what this ring offers. Bear in mind that high-contrast photos come out better than dark ones: a face against a light background engraves more sharply than a photo in which everything is roughly equally dark.
Choosing Your Size
The ring comes in sizes 6 to 10. These are US sizes and half sizes do not exist; if you are between two sizes, take the larger one. You can find which diameter matches which size in our ring size chart. Measure at the end of the day, because fingers are slightly thicker then than in the morning. A signet ring has a heavier head than a plain band, so it must not sit too loose: if it turns, the engraving ends up on the side of your finger.
Care
Soap and hand cream collect in the engraved lines, and on a photo engraving in particular that makes the image fade. A dry, soft toothbrush makes it crisp again. Otherwise lukewarm water and mild soap are enough. Because there is no layer on it, you can keep it on for washing your hands and in the shower; take it off before the swimming pool, because chlorine is harsher than shower water. The gold-tone signet ring does have a layer over the steel, so take that one off. You will not need silver polish here: steel is not silver and no tarnish forms. Do not use an ultrasonic bath or abrasives.
