Cuban Ring Gold Stainless Steel With Depth in the Link Pattern

A broad ring in which the cuban link is carried all the way round, so the pattern is never interrupted. In gold that structure gains more depth than in steel tone, because the shadow between the links stands out against the warm colour and keeps the pattern readable even from a distance. The base is stainless steel with a gold-tone finish applied in five layers of PVD.

Five Layers of PVD, and Why That Weighs Heaviest on a Ring

Of all jewellery a ring takes the most punishment, because your hands meet doors, keyboards, steering wheels and shopping bags, and that goes on all day. So how the gold colour was applied counts more here than anywhere else. With PVD the material is bonded to the steel at molecular level inside a vacuum chamber rather than laid on galvanically, at Carpe Ice in five layers. That makes the finish considerably harder and more scratch-resistant than ordinary gold plating. Indestructible it is not: take it off before the pool, the shower, sport, DIY and washing up, and the colour stays even for longest. The silver-tone version is bare steel with no layer and can simply stay on; this gold-tone one has a PVD layer, so that one comes off.

Choosing Your Size

The ring comes in US sizes 7 to 11. On a broad ring you often sit a little larger than on a narrow band, because the wide surface does not slide over your knuckle as easily. If you are unsure between two sizes, take the larger. Measure at the end of the day, because fingers are slightly thicker then than in the morning, and look your diameter up in the ring size chart.

Care

Hand cream and soap stay behind between the links, and that is what dulls the pattern, not the steel itself. Lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush will lift it out. Dry it thoroughly and do not use a polishing cloth or abrasives: those are meant for solid metal without a finish.

Styling

The cuban structure makes this ring a logical addition to a cuban chain or bracelet in the same gold tone. Wear it on a hand without other rings, or at most beside a plain band: two pronounced patterns on one hand cancel each other out. If you wear a gold-tone watch, the ring matches it naturally.
