How do I measure my ring size at home?

Two ways. Measure the inside diameter of a ring that fits well and multiply it by 3.14. Or wrap a strip of paper around your finger, mark where it meets and measure the length. That number is your circumference in millimeters. This ring comes in sizes 7, 8 and 9, which is 54, 57 and 59 mm in circumference.

Why does this ring cost less than a diamond ring?

Why Moissanite Matters Most on a Ring

Of all jewelry a ring takes the most knocks: doors, keyboards, shopping bags. On a soft stone you see that in dulled facet edges. Moissanite scores 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, against 8 to 8.5 for cubic zirconia and 10 for diamond. That difference of well over a point is exactly why a moissanite ring still looks sharp after a year and a cubic zirconia one does not.

More Fire Than Diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, made in a laboratory because it barely occurs in nature. The dispersion is 0.104 against 0.044 for diamond, more than double, and dispersion is the property that splits white light into colors. On a row of small stones on a moving hand you see that as a continuous series of colored flashes rather than one fixed glint.

Choosing Your Size

The ring comes in sizes 7, 8 and 9. These are US sizes and half sizes do not exist; you can find which diameter matches which size in our ring size chart. Measure at the end of the day where you can, because fingers are slightly thicker then than in the morning. On a ring set with stones all round you would rather not go too loose: if it turns, the stones end up underneath where they rub against your other fingers.

What the White Gold Plating Does Here

The band is solid 925 sterling silver with white gold plating over it. That layer keeps the silver cool in color and holds off tarnishing, which matters even more on a ring with stones: tarnished silver between the settings stands out immediately because the contrast with the clear stones is so great. Take the ring off for DIY, sport and washing up, because hands touch everything. If the layer does wear, silver appears underneath and a jeweler can have it re-plated.

Cleaning

Hand cream and soap collect under the stones, and that is where the sparkle dulls first, not the stones themselves. Lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft toothbrush along the underside of the setting will lift it away. Do not use an ultrasonic bath, because that is meant for solid metal without a finish.
