King's Chain Silver Stainless Steel (4mm): Finer, With No Layer to Wear Off
The king's link is built from small links that interlock layer by layer, creating a dense strand that catches light from several sides at once. At 4mm it keeps that full weave but sits calmer around the neck than the 5mm. The base is stainless steel, polished to a silver tone: there is no layer on it, because the steel itself already has that color. For that look you pay a fraction of what solid silver costs.

4mm or 5mm?
The weave is the same; only the width differs. Choose the silver king's chain in 5mm if you want the chain to stand out on its own. This 4mm is finer and lighter, which makes it easier to combine: under a shirt, with a pendant or layered with a second chain. On a narrower neck 4mm also stays better in proportion. All widths sit side by side in the king's link chains collection.
Steel or Solid 925 Sterling Silver?
The biggest difference is the upkeep. Real silver reacts to air and sweat and darkens over time. This chain does not do that: the tone stays as it was on day one. Against that, solid silver is a precious metal that can always be restored. If you want that route, the king's chain in 925 sterling silver is the counterpart, finer at 2.5mm and considerably more costly.
Water, Sweat and Cleaning
You do not need to take this chain off to wash your hands, walk through rain or shower: there is no layer that could wear off. Do take it off before the pool, because chlorine is harsher than shower water. After seawater or chlorine, give it a quick rinse under the tap. To freshen it up, use lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush: on a king's link dirt sits deeper in the weave than on a flat chain.
Which Length Hangs Where?
At 50 cm (20 in) the chain sits high and stays mostly above the collar of a T-shirt. 55 cm (22 in) falls just below it and is the safest choice for most wearers. At 65 cm (26 in) it hangs clearly on the chest, and at 75 cm (30 in) it becomes a length for a pendant or for wearing over clothing. If you want to layer with the 5mm or the silver Byzantine chain in 6mm, leave at least 10 cm difference so they do not catch on each other.
