Silver or gold on a tennis line
This is the one decision worth thinking about, because on a tennis piece the metal is visible between every stone.
Silver: setting and stone blend into one continuous line of light. Cleaner, more discreet, and it pairs with a steel watch by default.
Gold: the warm setting contrasts with the clear stones, so you see the pattern of the links as well as the sparkle. Richer, and more noticeable at a distance.

What decides the quality
The setting rather than the stone. The stones should sit tight and evenly with no visible gaps, and the links should move smoothly: rigid means the setting is too tight, rattling means it is too loose. Ours are set with cubic zirconia, and the moissanite version is the upgrade if you want a stone that keeps its clarity for decades.
Care
Body lotion and soap collect underneath the settings, exactly where the light has to pass through, and that is what makes a set piece look dull rather than the stones. Brush it gently now and then with lukewarm water and a soft toothbrush, and dry it fully. There is no plating here to protect, so that is the whole routine.
