Rope Chain Silver Stainless Steel (2mm & 3mm) with a continuous screw line
On a rope chain the links are twisted around one another in a spiral rather than laid flat. That gives you a continuous screw line running the whole length of the chain, reflecting light in a spiral. It is why a rope still glitters at 2mm where a smooth link stays flat. The base is stainless steel, polished to a silver tone: there is no layer on it, because the steel itself already has that colour.

What Makes the Rope Link Different
The twisted construction gives the chain far more surface than a flat link of the same width, and that surface sits at all sorts of angles. With every movement a different section lights up, which makes a rope livelier than a box or cuban of comparable size. It is the reason rope chains often look broader than they are. A practical benefit: the round cross-section makes it supple, so it follows the neck without kinking.
Bare Steel on a Twisted Link
The spiral has many protruding edges and that is exactly where a finish wears first. That does not apply here, because there is no finish. The silver tone is the polished steel itself, and that makes this the carefree version: where a gold-tone rope would grow lighter along those edges over time, here the tone simply continues.
2mm or 3mm
The 2mm is refined and works well under a shirt or alongside other chains. The 3mm has clearly more presence and can be worn alone without looking thin. If you are hanging a pendant on it, 2mm is the classic choice; if you want the chain itself to speak, take the 3mm.
How Much Spiral Do You Want to See?
On a rope, length works differently than on a smooth chain, because the effect lives in the repetition of the twist. The more chain is visible, the further you can follow that screw line. At 45 cm it disappears largely behind a collar and you keep a fine line nobody particularly notices, which is fine if that is the intention. From 55 cm it falls free on the chest and the spiral really comes into its own, and at 60 cm you wear it over a T-shirt with its full length in view. The 50 sits in between and is the safe choice if you are unsure.
Care
You do not need to take it off to wash your hands, walk through rain or shower: there is no layer that could wear off. Do take it off before the pool, because chlorine is harsher than shower water. The gold-tone rope chain also comes off before the shower and before sport, because a layer does sit over the same steel there. Rinse it under the tap after seawater or chlorine. You will never need silver polish, because no tarnish forms of the kind you get on real silver. To freshen it up, use lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush: more dirt sits in the grooves of the spiral than on a smooth link, and that is what dulls the shine.
Styling
Silver-tone steel matches almost any steel watch. If you want to layer, a rope makes a good second layer beside a broader, smoother chain: the contrast between smooth and twisted works better than the same link type twice. Leave at least 10 cm difference in length so they do not catch on each other.
