Why Silver on Steel Is More Carefree Than Gold

This is the practical advantage the gold-tone version does not have. There a gold layer sits over the steel, and as soon as it wears through anywhere a lighter patch appears. Here there is nothing on top: the steel is silver-colored and polished itself, so there is no layer that can wear off. A scratch exposes the same color as the rest, and the tone simply continues. This is the chain you put on and then forget about.

3mm, 5mm or 7mm

The 3mm is refined and disappears under a collar, which suits it to wearing alongside other pieces. The 5mm is our best-selling size and the point where the Cuban link becomes clearly recognizable without demanding attention. The 7mm is a statement with visibly heavier links. If you want to hang a pendant on it, 3mm or 5mm is more practical, because at 7mm most bails no longer fit over the link. Which Length

As a guide, 50 cm (20 in) falls just below your collarbone, 55 cm (22 in) at the top of your breastbone and 60 cm (24 in) in the middle of your chest. At 34%, 55 cm (22 in) is our best-selling length across all chains. With a wider link you usually go one size longer, because a wide link sits higher on your chest. Water, Sweat and Cleaning

You do not need to take this chain off to wash your hands, walk through rain or shower: there is no layer on it that can wear through. Do take it off before the swimming pool, because chlorine is harsher than shower water. Take the gold-tone Cuban chain off before the shower and sport, though, because that one does have a layer over the same steel. After seawater or chlorine, give it a quick rinse under the tap. To freshen it up, use lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush: soap collects between flat Cuban links and dulls the shine. You will not need silver polish, because no tarnish forms of the kind you get on real silver.

Styling

Silver-tone steel matches the case and bracelet of almost any steel watch, which makes this chain easier to wear than gold. If you want a set, the Cuban bracelet in the same width is the obvious addition. If you layer with a second chain, leave at least 10 cm difference in length so they do not catch on each other.
