King's Chain 925 Sterling Silver (2.5mm) in Solid Precious Metal, Inside and Out
This chain is solid 925 sterling silver, inside and out. There is no finish on it that can wear off, because there is no finish: what you see is the material itself. At 2.5mm this is the finest king's link in the range, and the dense weave makes it look fuller than that width suggests.

What 925 Actually Means
The number stands for 92.5 per cent pure silver, made up with other metals for strength. Pure silver is too soft to hold a link in shape. That ratio is the international standard for sterling silver and appears as a stamp by the clasp. The difference from a silver-plated or gold-plated chain is fundamental: here the silver is not a layer but the whole piece. It also means the chain holds value in itself and can always be polished.
Tarnishing Comes With the Metal
Silver reacts to air and sweat and darkens over time. That is not a fault but chemistry, and a silver cloth sorts it in a minute. Wear the chain daily and it largely stays bright by itself, because your skin polishes it. A chain sitting in a box actually tarnishes faster than one you wear. So store it airtight if you are leaving it off for a while. Take it off before the pool, because chlorine attacks silver.
Choosing the Right Length
At 50 cm the chain stays inside a shirt collar, which suits wearing it at work or under clothing. 55 cm falls just below the collarbone and is the most chosen length. 60 cm hangs on the chest and leaves room for a pendant, which at this width passes over most bails comfortably. If in doubt, go for 55 cm, because that length works in most situations.
Silver or Plated?
If you want the same link in gold tone, the king's chain in 18K gold plated is the counterpart, with exactly this 925 base underneath. The choice is not about quality but about upkeep: with plating you top up a layer in time, with solid silver you polish now and then. What you never have with this version is the risk of something coming off.
