Rope Chain Silver Stainless Steel (2mm & 3mm) with a continuous spiral
On a rope chain, the links are twisted around each other in a spiral instead of lying flat. That gives you a continuous spiral running the whole length of the chain, reflecting light as it turns. It's why a rope still sparkles at 2mm, where a smooth link stays flat. The base is stainless steel, polished to a silver tone: there's no layer on it, because the steel itself already has that color.

What Makes the Rope Link Different
The twisted construction gives the chain far more surface than a flat link of the same width, and that surface faces in all sorts of directions. Every time you move, a different section lights up, which makes a rope livelier than a box or Cuban of similar size. That's why rope chains often look wider than they are. There's a practical bonus too: the round cross section makes it supple, so it follows your neck without kinking.
Bare Steel on a Twisted Link
The spiral has lots of raised edges, and that's exactly where a finish wears first. Here that's no issue, because there's no finish at all. The silver tone is the polished steel itself, which makes this the carefree version: a gold tone rope can get lighter along those edges over time, but on this one the color is the same all the way through.
2mm or 3mm
The 2mm is refined and works well under a shirt or alongside other chains. The 3mm has clearly more presence and can be worn alone without looking thin. If you're hanging a pendant on it, 2mm is the classic choice; if you want the chain itself to do the talking, go for the 3mm.
How Much Spiral Do You Want to See?
On a rope, length works differently than on a smooth chain, because the effect comes from the repeating twist. The more chain that shows, the more of that spiral you see. At 45 cm (18 in) it mostly disappears behind a collar, leaving a fine line that hardly draws attention, which is perfect if that's what you're after. From 55 cm (22 in) it hangs free on the chest and the spiral really comes into its own, and at 60 cm (24 in) you wear it over a T-shirt with its full length in view. The 50 sits in between and is the safe choice if you're unsure.
Care
You don't need to take it off to wash your hands, walk in the rain or shower: there's no layer that could wear off. Do take it off before the pool, because chlorine is harsher than shower water. The gold tone rope chain is different: that one has a layer over the same steel, so take it off before the shower and sports. Rinse this one under the tap after seawater or chlorine. You'll never need silver polish, because it doesn't tarnish the way real silver does. To freshen it up, use lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush: the grooves of the spiral hold more dirt than a smooth link, and that's what dulls the shine.
Styling
Silver tone steel matches almost any steel watch. If you like to layer, a rope makes a great second layer next to a wider, smoother chain: the contrast between smooth and twisted works better than the same link type twice. Leave at least 10 cm of difference in length so they don't catch on each other.
