A Tennis Bracelet Has to Be Able to Turn
This is the difference from a link bracelet, and it is often bought wrong. A tennis bracelet should sit slightly looser than you are used to, so it turns with your wrist and the stones keep catching a different angle. Worn tight, the same row stays facing up and you lose half the effect you are paying for. Measure your wrist and add about 1.5 cm: below 17 cm you are right with 18 cm, above that with 20 cm.
What the Copper Base Does to the Gold Colour
The base is a nickel-free copper alloy rather than stainless steel, because copper can be worked more finely and the settings therefore close tightly around each stone. In gold that brings a second benefit: the warm undertone of copper shows through the gold layer and makes the colour fuller than the same finish on a cool base. And copper is denser than hollow steel, which you feel immediately on a wrist: the bracelet lies heavy rather than tinny.
Five Layers of PVD on the Piece That Moves Most
The gold colour is applied with PVD, bonded in five molecular layers rather than laid on galvanically. That makes the layer considerably harder and more scratch-resistant than ordinary plating, and on a wrist that weighs heaviest: it rubs along sleeves, table edges and a keyboard all day. Wear it on your non-dominant wrist where you can, and the finish keeps its even colour longest.
Keeping It Sparkling
A copper alloy is more sensitive to moisture than steel, so this is a piece for going out rather than for the gym. On a wrist hand cream is the biggest culprit, more so than soap: it creeps under the settings and leaves a film exactly where the light has to pass. Apply hand cream before you put the bracelet on, take it off for showering, swimming and training, and keep a dry, soft toothbrush to hand for underneath the setting.
Next to a Watch
Wear it on your free wrist if your watch is silver-toned, because gold beside steel reads as unintended rather than deliberate. If you have a gold-tone watch it can go on the same wrist, with a few centimetres between them: a steel watch case is harder than the finish and will otherwise tap it dull.
