Gold on silver, and why that combination
The base is solid 925 sterling silver, a precious metal in its own right, with 18K gold plated over it. That matters most on a fine chain: where a plating eventually thins at the clasp or the back of the neck, what shows through is silver, not a dull base metal. It reads as two-tone rather than as damage, and a jeweler can re-plate it.
Handling a fine chain
Honesty about the trade-off: the finer the chain, the less pull it takes. A 1.5MM rope is not the chain to hang a heavy pendant on, and it is not the one to tug over your head with the clasp closed, which is how thin chains actually break.
Treat it gently and it will outlast wider chains, because a fine chain rarely takes a knock. Take it off before the shower, the pool and the gym, put it on after aftershave has dried, and store it flat rather than looped, since a thin rope kinks and a kink cannot be pressed out.
Choose your length: 50, 55 or 60 cm
50cm: high on the neck, hidden by a collar. The usual choice for the top layer in a stack.
55cm: on the collarbones, and the safest single choice.
60cm: on the chest, which is where you want a pendant to sit.
If you plan to layer two chains, take a 50 and a 60 rather than a 50 and a 55, and put the finer one on top.
