This is the 2MM sterling silver rope chain, the narrowest of the three sterling widths we carry. Solid 925 silver, with the twisted spiral link that gives a rope its shine. What the 2MM is for
Each of our three sterling rope widths does a different job, and this is the one that plays well with others.
Layering: fine enough to sit under a wider chain without fighting it

Why solid silver at all
925 sterling is 92.5 percent pure silver, alloyed with copper for strength. Every part of this chain is that alloy, clasp included. It has material value, it can be repaired or shortened by any jeweler, and it has the warmer, softer shine that a hard steel chain cannot reproduce. What it asks in return is the occasional polish.
Choose your length: 50, 55 or 60 cm
50cm: sits high on the neck. The usual choice for a short layering chain.
55cm: lands on the collarbones and works with or without a pendant.
60cm: sits on the chest, and the right length if a pendant should hang clear of the collar.
Layering two lengths only works if they are far enough apart. Take a 50 and a 60 rather than a 50 and a 55, and put the finer chain on top.
Care for a fine silver chain
Silver darkens over time because it reacts with sulphur in the air. On a rope chain the darkening shows first inside the twist, where a cloth cannot easily reach, which is what makes a thin rope look dull sooner than a flat chain does.
A silver polishing cloth fixes the outside in a minute. For the recesses, warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid and a very soft brush, then dry it properly. Store it flat in the box rather than looped, because a fine rope kinks, and a kink in a twisted link cannot be pressed out.
