Why Solid Silver Matters at 2mm

On a fine chain there is little material to hide behind. A plated chain of 2mm shows what sits underneath at the slightest contact, while this one is silver right through: no other color can ever appear, because there is nothing else in it. On top of that, silver can be repaired. If a fine chain ever breaks, a jeweler solders it, which is pointless on a plated piece.

Tarnishing Comes With the Metal

Silver reacts to air and to sweat and darkens over time. That is not a fault but a property of the metal, and a silver cloth lifts it in a minute. At 2mm that goes faster than on a broad chain, simply because there is less surface. If you want something that never tarnishes, our stainless steel rope is the more practical choice; if you want precious metal, occasional polishing comes with it.

50, 55 or 60 cm

If you are hanging a pendant on it, work backwards from where you want to see it: a 4 cm pendant on a 50 cm (20 in) chain finishes where a bare 58 cm (23 in) chain would end. Without a pendant, 50 cm (20 in) sits around the collarbone, 55 cm (22 in) is our best-selling length, and 60 cm (24 in) hangs free on the chest. Layering with a broader chain, leave at least 10 cm difference.

As a Pendant Chain and as a Layer

At 2mm this is the classic width for carrying a pendant without the chain claiming attention. Keep the pendant in proportion: a heavy one pulls a fine chain out of line and strains the clasp. Layered under a broader chain this is the fine bottom layer; twisted links catch on each other sooner than flat ones do.

Care

Lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap and dry it thoroughly. If it tarnishes, use a silver cloth and no abrasives. Take it off before the swimming pool, because chlorine attacks silver. More soap collects in the grooves of the spiral than on a smooth chain, so rinse well. Store it separately in the box it came in: silver resting against other metal scratches and tarnishes faster.
