Rope Chain 18K Gold Plated over 925 Sterling Silver (2.8MM)
The 2.8MM gold plated rope chain is the middle of our three gold rope widths and the one most people should start with. Wide enough that the twist is clearly visible and the chain works on its own, narrow enough to wear under a collar without a ridge showing through a shirt. Solid 925 sterling silver underneath, 18K gold plated on top, in 50, 55 and 60 cm.

1.5MM, 2.8MM or 3.8MM: choosing your width
We make this rope in three gold plated widths, and they are not simply small, medium and large.
1.5MM: a layering and pendant chain. Almost invisible under a collar, and the width where the twist becomes texture.
2.8MM: the standalone everyday chain. Visible without being loud, and it still carries a medium pendant.
3.8MM: a statement. Meant to be seen over a t-shirt and worn without anything else.

Where this sits against the alternatives
There are three ways to buy a gold-looking chain, and they are not the same product at three prices.
Gold-tone stainless steel: cheapest. A coating over a fashion metal, and when it wears, hard grey shows through.
Gold plated sterling silver, which is this chain: a precious metal base, so wear shows as silver rather than as base metal, and it can be re-plated.
Solid gold: nothing to wear off, at roughly ten times the price of this chain.
The middle option exists because it is the only one that gives you real metal under the color without a four figure invoice.
Choose your length: 50, 55 or 60 cm
50cm: high on the neck, mostly hidden by a collar.
55cm: on the collarbones. The most chosen length at this width.
60cm: on the chest and visible over a t-shirt.
Measure a chain you already own from clasp to clasp rather than guessing. Between two lengths, go longer.
Making the plating last
A rope has more surface than a flat chain of the same width, because every link is angled, and friction is what removes a finish. The good news is that a neck is far gentler than a wrist.
Take it off for the shower, the pool, the gym and sleeping, put it on after aftershave and sunscreen have dried, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Never use a silver polishing cloth, which is abrasive and will strip the gold.
What to wear it with
