Why Hardness Counts Most on a Wrist

A wrist meets desk edges, door frames and a laptop all day, far more often than a chain meets anything. That makes the choice of stone more important here than anywhere else. Moissanite reaches 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, against 8 to 8.5 for cubic zirconia. With hundreds of stones across 12mm of width that is the difference between facet edges that stay sharp and edges that go dull exactly where the most contact happens.

Moissanite is silicon carbide, made in a lab because it barely occurs in nature. The dispersion is 0.104 against 0.044 for diamond, more than double, and dispersion is what splits white light into colours. On a wrist that sparkle sits at reading distance: you see separate colour flashes per stone rather than the broad sheet of light a chain gives at chest height.

Which Size: 19 or 22 cm

Measure your wrist and add about 1.5 cm. Below 17.5 cm, 19 cm is the right size; above that, 22 cm. At this width and weight you want it slightly loose rather than tight, because a broad flat link that is clamped ends up sitting on its edge. The box clasp with double safety lock holds it shut; check both locks after putting it on.

Care

Solid 925 silver can tarnish through air and sweat. A silver cloth lifts that away, working along the metal rather than over the stones. Dirt under the setting dulls the sparkle first: lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush are enough. Do not use an ultrasonic bath with this many set stones, and lay the bracelet flat rather than storing it coiled. Take it off before the pool, because chlorine attacks silver.

Styling
