Necklaces in Silver and Gold
A necklace is the first thing that sets the tone of an outfit. In this collection you will find silver and gold necklaces for men and women, from fine chains for layering to heavy links that stand on their own.
Choose your link
The type of link defines the look far more than the color does. Our complete guide to king's link chains covers what sets each one apart in weight, strength and look:
- King's link — densely woven, square from every angle, the strongest link in the range
- Cuban link — flat, wide links that sit tight against the skin
- Tennis — a continuous row of set stones
- Iced out — fully set, maximum impact
Which length?
Our necklaces run from 45 to 75 cm (18 to 30in). As a guide: 50 cm (20in) sits just below the collarbone, 55 cm (22in) on the top of the breastbone and 60 cm (24in) mid chest. From 65 cm (26in) you wear the chain over a shirt or hoodie. Our size guide shows exactly where each length falls and how to work it out for yourself. If you want to add a pendant, choose a narrower link so the pendant sets the tone.
Material
Silver-coloured stainless steel is bare, polished steel: no coating that can wear through, so the colour does not change and no tarnish builds up — you can keep those chains on in the shower. The gold and rose gold models carry a five-layer PVD finish, harder than ordinary plating but still a coating: take those off before the shower and the gym. The same goes for the stone-set models on nickel-free copper alloy with PVD. The pool is off for every model, because chlorine is harsher than shower water. If you want a real precious metal, look at 925 sterling silver: 92.5% pure silver, heavier in the hand and with a deeper shine.
